In 1932, a “circus hitched to a tornado” roared across    Arkansas led by Huey Long and Arkansas’ own Hattie Caraway, the first woman elected to the United States Senate.  More than eighty years later, “Hattie” will appear for the Keenagers program on Tuesday, May 6, at Noon.  Everyone is welcome!

Hattie, a lifelong Methodist, will be portrayed by Dr. Nancy Hendricks, an award winning writer, and author of Senator Hattie Caraway: An Arkansas Legacy.  Hendricks is a member of Christ of the Hills UMC in Hot Springs Village.  Hendicks will point out a number of local connections to the historic campaign.  The colorful, controversial ‘Kingfish’ of Louisiana, Huey Long, barnstormed Arkansas to campaign for Caraway who was running for a full term in office in 1932.  Until then, no one gave her much of a chance.

The menu is Lasagna, Green Bean Casserole, Salad, Roll & Banana Pudding.  Price is $6.  Please come support Dr. Hendricks and our Keenagers program!
