UNITED METHODIST
WOMEN
Greetings!
The purpose of UMW shall be a community of women whose purpose is
to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus
Christ; to develop a creative, supportive fellowship; and to expand
concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries
of the church.
At Asbury we have three circles that meet on a monthly basis at
the church.
They are:
• Mary Circle
- 2nd Monday at 10:30 am, Parlor
This UMW group meets the
second Monday of each month at 10:30 a.m. in the parlor. Members'
ages range from the 40s to the 70s and are now grandmothers.
Each month's program is presented by a member and ranges from theology
to self improvement to social issues. Mission projects include
serving at the Soup Kitchen at First Presbyterian, downtown, on
the fifth Thursday of any month during the year, making baby blankets
for the Medical Center throughout the year and collecting items
for Conference Mission and Outreach. Their contact person
Val Carr.
• Ruth Circle
- 3rd Monday at 1:00 pm, downstairs conference room
This UMW group meets the
third Monday of each month at 1:00pm in the large conference room.
(There are no meetings in July and August) Mission projects
for this group include "Food for Kids" through the Arkansas
Rice Depot, Camp Aldersgate (contribution of a campership in June
of every year), Kits for Ingathering and support for District UMW
through pledges and "mile of pennies". Members rotate
being hostess, serving light refreshments and planning a program.
This group supports all Asbury UMW projects including Bake Sales,
UMW Sunday and general meetings. Their contact person is Fran Arnold.
• Rebekah
Circle - 1st Thursday at 6:30 pm, Parlor
This UMW group meets
the first Thursday of each month at 6:30pm in the parlor.
Members' ages range from the 30s to the 60s, single women, young
marrieds with children, as well as grandmothers. This program
format consists of studying books on life, self help and women of
the Bible. Mission projects include supporting a family or
a foster child at Christmas to collecting items for Conference Mission
and Outreach. Their contact person is Leta Anglin.
The unit participates in various local mission projects including
the Rice Depot, Camp Aldersgate, Methodist Children’s Home,
Stewpot, Lion’s Club, UAMS, Ronald McDonald house, Dorcas
House, Second Genesis, along with supporting other global mission
outreach projects.
We would love new members to join us in service, education, growth
of faith and fellowship with others who share the same bond. For
