Lenten Canticles

lcOn Friday, April 3, 2015, 6:30 p.m. the Chancel Choir of Asbury United Methodist Church, will present the cantata “Lenten Canticles,” a work arranged by John Leavitt, which will be sung by the choir and congregation.

Through scripture, readings and anthems, the choir will lead us in worship in the sanctuary. Canticle is a word derived from Latin, meaning “hymn taken from the Bible, excluding the Psalms.” The term is often expanded to include ancient non-biblical hymns as well. The canticles reflect the Lenten themes of fasting, penitence and sorrow.

Capturing the varying moods and colors of Passion Week, Lenten Canticles contains classic, well-known Lenten texts and melodies seamlessly woven together with the spoken word. Enhance the beautiful choral harmonies with the rich, effective chamber orchestration. Contents include: Lead Me, Lord; Go To Dark Gethsemane; O Sacred Head, Now Wounded; Come, My Way, Truth, My Life; God So Loved The World; Jesus, My Treasure; Jesu, Joy Of My Desiring; Set Me As A Seal and In The Cross Of Christ I Glory.

This moving musical will add a deeper spiritual meaning to your Good Friday! Come worship with the Chancel Choir, Friday, April 3rd, at 6:30 pm. Asbury UMC Sanctuary.
